"Costa students and parents have made my years at Costa especially memorable ones. I have been blessed to be part of such a caring, nurturing community. As educators, we are expected to make a difference in the lives of our students, but it is the students who motivate me to become a more effective educator."
The 2017-2018 school year at Costa Catholic Academy has been filled with academics and activities.
During the opening week of school, the Costa fourth and fifth graders attended Galesburg Heritage Days learning about pre-1840s American history. This field trip was filled with valuable history lessons students draw from during the school year.
Students in Mrs. Purl’s reading classes read a number of popular and classic novels. During the fall semester, both fifth and sixth graders read Wonder, and then attended the movie as an extracurricular activity.
Costa was well represented at the Daughters of the American Revolution annual essay contest with both fifth and sixth grade first place winners being sent to state competition.
Currently, the sixth graders are studying China, its history and culture. The unit will culminate with a Chinese meal. Fifth graders are mastering fractions in math class, and are preparing to learn about the American Revolution. Both fifth and sixth grades are writing poetry and short stories to be submitted to local writing contests.
